Announcing the Call for Nominations for the 2017-2018 NACDD Board of Directors

NACDD is proud to announce its 2017-2018 Board of Directors call for nominations. As NACDD Members, we look to you to recommend peers and colleagues to serve on our board. Eligible nominees may be chronic disease directors or any other chronic disease professional who is serving with distinction and innovation as a leader or manager of a state or territory chronic disease program.

 

Self-nominations are welcome.

 

 What is the value of being an NACDD board member?

 Board members participate in a national leadership forum focused on strategically improving state and territory chronic disease infrastructure. They encourage emerging organizational and funding models in the public health delivery system, and they help identify ways we can understand and leverage prevention activities in local programs. Being a board member enhances leadership skills via personal and professional development, as well as provides avenues to share experiences and network with other committed public health professionals and partner organizations. An ideal NACDD Board Member will possess the following qualities and qualifications:

  1.  Eligibility: Must have served for at least one year in current position within a state or territory's chronic disease program.
  2.  Commitment: Willingness to be an active, productive, participant in an NACDD Council, committee or other NACDD program or project.
  3.  Service: Can meet projected time commitment (including board orientation, conferences, and committee participation). Willingness to serve on at least one standing board committee.
  4.  Governance Skills and Abilities:Experience in governing and policy development which includes providing strategic direction, monitoring organizational effectiveness, overseeing financial and budgetary issues, and determining critical policies or positions.
  5.  Teamwork Skills: Experience working in partnership with volunteers, consultants and staff with varying viewpoints and backgrounds. Ability to lead, influence and work effectively toward common goals as a team member.
  6.  Leadership Experience and Qualities: Demonstrated leadership through accomplishments in a particular field; service on other public or private boards; or recognition through honors, awards or achievements; or possession of a broad/visionary perspective (outside of your state health department); or a deep knowledge of how to address issues relevant to state and national chronic disease programs.
  7.  Association Representative: Ability to act as an NACDD spokesperson to the membership, public, press, and partners in articulating NACDD’s positions, mission, goals and activities.
  8.  Participation: Attendance and participation in regular and called meetings of the board, provide updates on NACDD projects and partnerships, and participation in NACDD’s annual business meeting.
  9.  Planning: Participating in annual and/or strategic planning to define association mission, priorities and programs.
  10.  Financial: Experience in financial oversight while assuring fiscal responsibility.
  11.  Loyalty: Demonstrating a duty of loyalty by exercising powers in good faith and in the best interests of the association above one’s own interests or the interests of another.
  12.  Ethics and Integrity: Not using a corporate position for individual or personal advantage. Agreeing to disclose all conflicts of interests.
  13.  Fundraising: Willing to make an annual personal, monetary donation of any amount to the organization and to assist with fundraising to support the organization’s legislation advocacy efforts.
